Deutz-Fahr is a cornerstone of global agricultural engineering, renowned for its high-performance tractors and harvesting equipment. The brand's identity is rooted in the 1968 merger between the tractor division of Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG (KHD) and Fahr, a prestigious manufacturer of harvesting tools. This union combined decades of German engineering expertise, dating back to Nicolaus August Otto’s invention of the four-stroke engine and the founding of the world's first engine factory, Gasmotoren-Fabrik Deutz AG.
Today, the brand operates as a focal point of the SDF Group (SAME Deutz-Fahr). While the historical roots are German, the manufacturing operations are globally distributed to serve international markets. The high-horsepower tractors (Series 6 to Series 9) are primarily produced at the 'Deutz-Fahr Land' facility in Lauingen, Germany, a multi-million-euro site recognized as one of the most modern tractor factories in Europe. Low-to-mid horsepower models and specialized equipment are often manufactured at the SDF headquarters in Treviglio, Italy, or in other international facilities located in Croatia, India, and China.
Ownership of the brand transitioned significantly in 1995 when the Italian Group SAME (Societá Accomandita Motori Endotermici) acquired Deutz-Fahr from KHD. This solidified the formation of the SDF Group, which remains the ultimate owner today. Headquartered in Italy, the SDF Group oversees several iconic agricultural brands, ensuring that Deutz-Fahr continues to lead in 'Smart Farming' technology and sustainable mechanical solutions across the globe.
