Tretorn is a historic Swedish brand founded in 1891 by Henry Dunker in Helsingborg, Sweden. Originally starting as a manufacturer of galoshes, the company quickly became a pioneer in rubber-based products, eventually becoming the second oldest sneaker manufacturer in the world. Its legacy is deeply intertwined with sports history, particularly through iconic styles like the Nylite tennis shoe, which became a staple of 'preppy' fashion and professional tennis in the 1960s and 70s.

While the brand maintains its headquarters and design spirit in Sweden, its manufacturing has evolved into a global operation. Today, Tretorn products are produced in several countries across Asia and Europe to meet global demand, with a significant modern focus on subterranean sustainability through their Eco Essentials Initiative. This initiative emphasizes the use of recycled rubber, ocean plastic, and PVC-free materials.

Ownership of the brand has changed hands over the decades. After being owned by the PUMA Group for several years, the brand was acquired by the American brand management firm Authentic Brands Group (ABG) in 2015. Under ABG's ownership, Tretorn continues to operate as a premium lifestyle brand, blending its Scandinavian heritage with modern environmental consciousness.
