Flora is a globally recognized brand of margarine and vegetable oil-based spreads, originally formulated as a heart-healthy alternative to butter. The brand was first launched in the United Kingdom in the 1960s by Unilever. It became famous for its use of plant-based oils, particularly sunflower oil, and its historical association with heart health charities.

In 2018, Unilever sold its global spreads business to KKR, which led to the formation of Upfield. Today, Upfield is the world’s largest plant-based consumer products company. Production occurs in various facilities worldwide to serve regional markets, including major plants in the UK, Germany, and Australia. In recent years, the brand has shifted its focus heavily toward vegan-certified recipes, removing buttermilk from several of its core products to meet the growing demand for plant-based diets.
