Tempo is one of the most iconic hygiene brands in Europe, particularly in Germany where its name has become a generic term for tissues. Originally founded in Nuremberg in 1929 by the Vereinigte Papierwerke AG, the brand revolutionized the personal care market with the first disposable paper handkerchief. Historically, the brand was built under the ownership of the Camelia company and later the Schickedanz Group.

In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, ownership shifted through major mergers and acquisitions. It was acquired by the American consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble in 1994, before being sold to the Swedish hygiene company SCA in 2007. Following a corporate spin-off in 2017, the hygiene business of SCA became Essity. Today, Essity is the ultimate owner and maintains the brand's reputation for quality through advanced manufacturing techniques, producing products like these moist toilet tissues that emphasize skin sensitivity and environmental sustainability using plant-based fibers.
