Fisher & Paykel is an iconic brand that resonates deeply with New Zealand's industrial history. Founded in Auckland in 1934 by Sir Woolf Fisher and Maurice Paykel, the company initially imported refrigerators before transitioning into manufacturing its own appliances. Over the decades, it became a global leader in home appliance innovation, particularly known for its 'ActiveSmart' technology and 'DishDrawer' dishwashers.

While the brand holds its roots in New Zealand, the manufacturing landscape shifted significantly in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Production moved from New Zealand to more cost-effective locations including Thailand, Mexico, Italy, and China. Despite this international manufacturing footprint, the brand's design and engineering center remains heavily centered in New Zealand.

In 2012, the Chinese multinational home appliances company Haier Group purchased the majority stake in Fisher & Paykel. Today, it operates as a premium subsidiary of Haier. This ownership has allowed the brand to expand its global reach while maintaining its distinct identity as a high-end appliance manufacturer headquartered in East Tamaki, Auckland.
