Yahoo! was founded in 1994 by Jerry Yang and David Filo at Stanford University. Originally started as a directory for other websites called 'Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web,' it quickly evolved into one of the most prominent pioneers of the early internet era, offering a suite of services including email, search, and news.

Over the decades, the company's ownership has shifted significantly. In 2017, Verizon Communications acquired Yahoo’s core internet business, merging it with AOL to form a subsidiary eventually known as Oath Inc. Following a strategic pivot by Verizon, the brand was sold in 2021 to Apollo Global Management, a global private equity firm. Today, Yahoo! operates as an independent media and technology company, maintaining its position as a major digital ecosystem used by millions worldwide.
