The image displays a classic Willow pattern (also known as Blue Willow) platter, a quintessential piece of Chinoiserie-style ceramic kitchenware. While inspired by Chinese export porcelain designs of the 18th century, the pattern itself was formalized and popularized by English potters. Thomas Turner of Caughley is often credited with the first finished version around 1780, though it was later industrialized by famous brands like Spode, Wedgwood, and Johnson Brothers.

Historically, these pieces were manufactured in the Staffordshire potteries area of the United Kingdom. Today, while some premium heritage lines are still produced in England, many mass-market versions of this pattern are manufactured in countries like China, Thailand, or Indonesia under the license of various global kitchenware brands. The pattern features iconic motifs including a pagoda, a willow tree, three figures on a bridge, and a pair of doves, telling a romantic folklore story that was actually invented by British marketers to boost sales of the ceramics.
