Merrild is one of Denmark's most iconic coffee brands, established in 1964 by Møller H. Merrild in Fredericia, Denmark. Originally starting as a small local roastery, it grew into a household staple known for its classic medium and dark roasts.
In 2015, following the merger of D.E. Master Blenders 1753 and Mondelez International's coffee business, Merrild was sold to the Italian coffee giant Luigi Lavazza S.p.A. to comply with European competition regulations. Today, while the brand maintains its deep Danish heritage and is the market leader in Denmark, its production is largely integrated into Lavazza's global manufacturing network, primarily utilizing their large-scale roasting facilities in Italy. The brand continues to focus on Nordic taste profiles, specifically the 'Specialristet' (specially roasted) blend seen in the image, which is a signature of the brand's profile.
