YeaZ is an open-source scientific software tool designed for the automated segmentation and tracking of yeast cells in microscopic images. Developed by researchers at the Laboratory of Physics of Biological Systems (LPBS) at EPFL in Switzerland, the software leverages convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to provide high-accuracy analysis for biological research.

The brand and software were created as part of an academic project aimed at simplifying the quantification of time-lapse microscopy. Its development was funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the European Research Council (ERC). As an open-source project, YeaZ is distributed under the MIT License and is maintained on platforms like GitHub by the Rahi Lab at EPFL. It remains under the ultimate stewardship of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
