The Clarks Wallabee is an iconic footwear design characterized by its moccasin construction and structural silhouette. Originally launched in the 1960s, it has become a staple in both streetwear and casual fashion worldwide. Known for its crepe sole—a signature natural rubber sole used by the brand—the Wallabee offers a distinct aesthetic that bridges the gap between formal shoes and casual trainers.
The brand's history dates back to 1825 in Street, Somerset, England, when brothers Cyrus and James Clark created a slipper from sheepskin offcuts. This heralded the beginning of C. & J. Clark International Ltd. Over the decades, the company evolved from a local manufacturer into a global brand. While its roots and design heritage remain firmly planted in the United Kingdom, production today takes place in a variety of locations across the globe to meet international demand.
In terms of ownership, the brand remained largely family-owned for nearly two centuries. However, in early 2021, a significant shift occurred when LionRock Capital, a private equity firm based in Hong Kong, acquired a majority stake in the company. This investment was aimed at revitalizing the brand's global presence, particularly in the Asian market, while maintaining the heritage quality and design standards that have made the Wallabee a cultural icon for generations.
