Splenda is one of the world's most recognizable low-calorie sweetener brands, famous for its primary ingredient, sucralose. The brand was originally developed through a partnership between the British firm Tate & Lyle and the American healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson. Since its launch in the early 1990s, the brand has revolutionized the sugar-alternative market, offering consumers a way to sweeten drinks and baked goods with significantly fewer calories.
In 2015, Heartland Food Products Group, based in Indiana, USA, acquired the Splenda brand from Johnson & Johnson's subsidiary, McNeil Nutritionals. Since then, Heartland has managed the global development and distribution of the product line. While the core sucralose ingredient was historically manufactured at specialized sites like those in McIntosh, Alabama, the formulation and packaging for retail occur in multiple facilities globally to serve different regional markets.
Today, Splenda remains a market leader in the sugar substitute category, expanding its portfolio to include stevia, erythritol, and liquid sweeteners. The brand continues to be headquartered in the United States under the private ownership of Heartland, maintaining its reputation as a dominant force in the health and wellness food sector.
