TotalEnergies is a global multi-energy company that produces and markets fuels, natural gas, and electricity. Originally founded as the Compagnie Française des Pétroles (CFP) in 1924 by the French government, the brand was established to create a purely French oil company. Over the decades, it evolved through major mergers, notably with the Belgian company Petrofina and the French firm Elf Aquitaine, leading to the name TotalFinaElf and eventually just Total.

In 2021, the company rebranded to TotalEnergies to signal its strategic shift toward renewable energy and decarbonization. As one of the world's seven 'Supermajor' oil companies, its manufacturing and refining operations are spread across every continent, with significant production facilities in France, Belgium, the United States, and across the Middle East and Africa. The company remains headquartered in Courbevoie, France, and is a publicly traded entity on various stock exchanges including Euronext Paris and the New York Stock Exchange.
