Ritter Sport is a renowned German brand of chocolate bars, famous for its unique square shape and 'Knick-Pack' packaging design, which allows consumers to open the bar by snapping it. The brand was established in 1912 by Alfred Ritter and Clara Ritter in Stuttgart, Germany. The iconic square design was born in 1932 to ensure the chocolate bar could fit into a sport jacket pocket without breaking, hence the name 'Sport'.
To this day, Ritter Sport remains a family-owned enterprise, managed by Alfred Ritter GmbH & Co. KG. The manufacturing is primarily centralized at their headquarters in Waldenbuch, Germany. The company is well-known for its commitment to sustainability, being one of the first major chocolate manufacturers to source 100% certified sustainable cocoa. It operates its own cocoa plantation, El Cacao, in Nicaragua to maintain high ethical and quality standards throughout its supply chain.
