Arco Design is a comprehensive enterprise-level design system and UI library developed for modern web development. Originally conceived as an internal tool within the ByteDance ecosystem to unify design standards across their numerous applications, it was eventually open-sourced to provide developers worldwide with high-quality React components and design guidelines.
The project is primarily maintained and developed in Beijing, China, by the ByteDance design and engineering teams. It follows a rigorous development process intended to serve high-traffic, large-scale applications, featuring over 70 individual components and extensive documentation. As part of ByteDance's open-source initiative, it competes with other industry standards like Ant Design by offering a sleek, modern aesthetic and robust performance.
Currently, Arco Design is part of the technology portfolio of Bytedance Ltd. It is distributed under the MIT License on platforms like GitHub, allowing for broad community contribution and adoption. Its ownership remains tied to ByteDance's corporate structure, which manages it as part of their infrastructure for both internal products (like Douyin/TikTok) and external cloud services.
