Oral-B is a globally leading brand in the oral hygiene sector, famously known for its high-quality manual and electric toothbrushes. The brand was originally founded in the United States in 1950 by Dr. Robert W. Huston, a periodontist who invented the first Oral-B toothbrush which featured soft, end-rounded nylon bristles. The name 'Oral-B' originally stood for 'Oral Brush.'
Expansion of the brand led to its acquisition by the Gillette Company in 1984. Eventually, Procter & Gamble (P&G) acquired Gillette in 2005, making Oral-B a core part of P&G's global health and beauty portfolio. While the brand has American roots, its manufacturing footprint is global. Many of the manual toothbrushes found in the European market are produced in Ireland, though high-tech components for electric models are often manufactured in Germany. Today, Oral-B remains a dominant force in dental health under the stewardship of P&G, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
