Holden, formerly known as General Motors-Holden, was an iconic Australian automaker with a legacy stretching back to the mid-19th century. Originally established as a saddlery business in Adelaide in 1856, it transitioned into the automotive sector in the early 20th century. By 1931, the company was acquired by General Motors, leading to the creation of the first all-Australian car in 1948.

Throughout its history, Holden became a cornerstone of Australian industrial identity, particularly with the manufacturing of the legendary Commodore and Monaro models. While manufacturing was centered in South Australia and Victoria, global supply chains and shared platforms meant components and certain models were also derived from General Motors' international subsidiaries.

In 2017, Holden ceased all local manufacturing operations in Australia, transitioning to a fully imported lineup before General Motors ultimately retired the brand name in 2020. Today, the brand's legacy is maintained through certified service networks managed by General Motors, which remains the ultimate owner of the brand's intellectual property and historical assets.
