Marie Callender’s began in the 1940s as a home-based pie business in Long Beach, California. Founded by Marie Callender and her family, the brand grew from a small kitchen operation into a widely recognized restaurant chain and frozen food label known for its comfort food classics like pot pies, fruit pies, and savory dinners.
Today, the brand operates under a dual ownership structure. The frozen food division—which includes the widely distributed supermarket items—is owned and manufactured by Conagra Brands. The restaurant and bakery chain is owned separately by Marie Callender's Restaurants & Bakery. Most frozen products are manufactured within the United States, utilizing large-scale production facilities to meet nationwide demand.
As of the 2020s, Conagra Brands continues to steward the retail presence of the brand, maintaining its heritage of premium, home-style ingredients. While the parent company is based in Chicago, Illinois, the brand's identity remains deeply rooted in its Californian origins.
