Wagamama Katsu Rice is part of a grocery range designed to bring the signature 'restaurant flavours in an instant' from the popular British restaurant chain to the home consumer market. Launched as part of a strategic expansion into the retail sector, these instant pots are specifically developed to replicate the iconic Japanese-inspired flavours that made the brand a staple of the UK high street.
The brand was originally founded in Bloomsbury, London, in 1992 by Alan Yau, who aimed to popularise the ramen bar concept in the West. Over the decades, Wagamama grew into a massive international franchise before being acquired by The Restaurant Group (TRG) in 2018. In late 2023 and into 2024, the ownership shifted again as Apollo Global Management completed an acquisition of TRG.
While the restaurant brand is British in origin and management, the retail grocery products, like this Katsu Rice pot, are often produced through licensing partnerships with food manufacturing specialists in the United Kingdom to ensure wide distribution in supermarkets while maintaining the brand's quality standards.
