Mikado is a popular snack consisting of a thin biscuit stick partially dipped in chocolate. The snack was originally inspired by the Japanese 'Pocky' snack created by Ezaki Glico in 1966. In the 1980s, the brand was introduced to the European market through a joint venture between Glico and the company that would eventually become part of the Mondelēz International portfolio.
The product is named after the traditional Japanese game of 'Mikado' (also known as pick-up sticks), reflecting the thin, wooden sticks used in the game. While the original concept is Japanese, the Mikado brand used in Europe and other select regions is managed by Mondelēz. It is primarily manufactured in European facilities, notably in France at the Cestas plant, to serve the local markets.
