The Rörstrand Ostindia pattern is one of Sweden's most iconic and prestigious dinnerware collections. It was inspired by a shard of china found on the shipwrecked Swedish East Indiaman "Götheborg" in the 1740s. The design was officially launched in 1932 after Emmy Almström's husband, Nils Almström, who was the director of Rörstrand at the time, decided to create a series based on the historical fragment.
Historically, Rörstrand products were manufactured in Sweden; however, since the brand was acquired by Fiskars Group, production for most porcelain lines has been moved offshore, primarily to Indonesia and Thailand, to maintain competitive global distribution while adhering to original design specifications. Today, Rörstrand is a premier brand under the Fiskars umbrella, representing a legacy of Swedish craftsmanship that spans nearly 300 years.
