Schweppes is widely recognized as one of the world's oldest soft drink brands, established in 1783 in Geneva by Johann Jacob Schweppe. After developing a process to manufacture bottled carbonated mineral water, the brand moved its headquarters to London in 1792, where it gained immense popularity and eventual royal recognition. In the 20th century, the brand merged with Cadbury to form Cadbury Schweppes, a conglomerate that would later be split in 2008.
Today, the ownership and manufacturing of Schweppes are fragmented across several global beverage giants. In North America (USA and Canada), the brand is owned by Keurig Dr Pepper. In the United Kingdom and many parts of Europe and Africa, the rights are held by The Coca-Cola Company. In other European countries, it is owned by the Suntory Group. Additionally, in Australia, the brand is owned by the Asahi Group. Because of this complex licensing structure, production occurs in bottling plants across almost every major global market to serve local consumers.
