Founded in Berlin in 1979 by Peter Tschimmel, Teufel began as a DIY speaker kit specialist before evolving into a leading European direct-to-consumer audio brand. The company gained fame for its high-quality home cinema systems and was the first German firm to offer THX-certified speakers. Over the decades, it has expanded its portfolio to include Bluetooth speakers, soundbars, and high-fidelity headphones, maintaining its reputation for powerful sound at competitive prices.
While the brand's research, development, and high-end engineering take place at its headquarters in Berlin, the majority of its mass-market manufacturing is carried out by specialized partners in China. The company has undergone several ownership changes; it was acquired by Riverside in 2006, then by HGGC in 2010, and is currently owned by the French investment firm Ardian, which acquired it through its expansion team in 2018. This ownership has allowed Teufel to continue its expansion across the European market while remaining deeply rooted in Berlin's vibrant tech and music culture.
