Batavo is one of Brazil's most historic and recognized dairy brands, originally founded in 1928 by Dutch immigrants in Carambeí, Paraná. The brand's name and iconography, featuring a Dutch girl, honor the heritage of the Batavian people from the Netherlands. Over the decades, it became synonymous with high-quality dairy products, particularly its 'Pedaços' line, which is famous for containing actual chunks of fruit.
Ownership of the brand has transitioned through major food conglomerates over the years. From the 1990s, it was part of the Perdigão portfolio, which later merged with Sadia to form BRF (Brasil Foods). In 2014, in a major strategic shift, BRF sold its dairy division, including Batavo, to the French dairy giant Lactalis. Today, Batavo is a flagship brand for Lactalis in Brazil, benefiting from global dairy expertise while maintaining its deep local roots and domestic production facilities.
