Becel is a well-known brand of margarine and health-focused spreads, originally launched in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom by Unilever in 1960. The brand was specifically developed as a heart-healthy alternative to butter, focusing on high polyunsaturated fat content. The name Becel is derived from the acronym B.C.L. (Blood Cholesterol Lowering).

In 2018, the brand underwent a significant ownership change when Unilever sold its entire spreads division to KKR, a leading global investment firm. The division was subsequently rebranded as Upfield. Today, Upfield is the world’s leading producer of plant-based spreads and cheeses. While the brand has global distribution, its manufacturing continues to be centered in major European hubs, particularly in the Netherlands, to serve the Benelux market.
