Back-Factory is a prominent German bakery-snack chain that revolutionized the bakery sector by introducing the self-service retail concept for fresh bread and pastries in 2002. Originally focused on traditional bakery goods, the brand successfully pivoted its business model to become a 'snack-professional,' offering a wide range of cold and hot snacks, including sandwiches, pizzas, and pastries, alongside coffee specialties.

In late 2021, the brand underwent a significant ownership change when it was acquired by the Swiss bakery giant Valora. Following this acquisition, Valora began a strategic integration process, converting many Back-Factory locations into their established 'backwerk' brand to consolidate their market position in the German quick-service industry. Today, the brand operates as part of an international network focused on high-frequency travel hubs and city centers.
