Campofrío is one of the most iconic Spanish food brands, specializing in processed meats and cold cuts. Originally founded in Burgos, Spain, in 1952, the brand has grown into a major European food entity. The Jamón Cocido Extra (Extra Cooked Ham) is a staple of their product line, often marketed for its allergen-free qualities.
While the brand maintains its Spanish identity and extensive manufacturing facilities across Spain (such as the major plant in Burgos), it is no longer an independent Spanish company. Since 2013, it has been part of the global portfolio of Sigma Alimentos, following a takeover. Sigma itself is a subsidiary of the Mexican industrial conglomerate Alfa, meaning the ultimate corporate ownership lies in Mexico, though European operations remain centered in Madrid.
