Budějovický Budvar Original Czech Lager

Budějovický Budvar is a globally recognized Czech lager with a history deeply rooted in its place of origin, České Budějovice (Budweis). Established in 1895 as the Czech Share Brewery, it was created by local Czech brewers as a response to the dominance of German-run breweries in the region, continuing a brewing tradition that dates back to 1265 when the city was granted brewing rights by King Ottokar II.

The product is unique in the modern beer industry because it is exclusively brewed in its original location in the Czech Republic. It is never produced under license in other countries, ensuring that every drop adheres to traditional methods, including an exceptionally long 90-day maturation process, the use of artesian water from local wells, and premium Saaz hops.

Ownership of Budějovický Budvar is a point of national significance. Unlike most major breweries that have been acquired by multinational beverage conglomerates, Budvar remains a state-owned enterprise (národní podnik) under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic. This status allows it to maintain its independence and traditional quality while serving as a guard of Czech brewing heritage.
