This product is a classic lead crystal mantel clock from Waterford, a name synonymous with high-end luxury glassware. The brand has its roots in the city of Waterford, Ireland, where two brothers, George and William Penrose, founded the original factory in 1783. Their goal was to create the finest quality crystal for drinking vessels and objects of beauty for the home. Although the original factory closed in the mid-19th century, the brand was successfully revived in 1947 by Károly Bacaik and Miroslav Havel, re-establishing Ireland as a global leader in crystal production.
Over the decades, manufacturing has expanded beyond its Irish base. While 'Heritage' and bespoke pieces are still crafted at the House of Waterford Crystal in Ireland, many consumer lines, including various desk and mantel clocks, are produced in high-tech facilities in Slovenia and Germany. The brand underwent significant corporate changes in the 21st century, eventually becoming part of the WWRD Holdings Limited group (Waterford Wedgwood Royal Doulton). In 2015, the Finnish company Fiskars Corporation acquired WWRD, bringing the iconic Irish brand under Scandinavian ownership as part of their global lifestyle portfolio.
