Kosta Boda is one of Sweden's most iconic glassworks brands, known for its artistic and functional glassware. The company's history dates back to 1742 when it was founded by two generals in the army of Charles XII, Anders Koskull and Georg Bogislaus Staël von Holstein, in the Småland region of Sweden. The name 'Kosta' is a portmanteau of their surnames.
The item shown is a piece of art glass, specifically from the 'Contrast' collection designed by Anna Ehrner. Each piece in this series is unique because the veils of color are applied by hand during the glassblowing process.
Today, Kosta Boda is part of the Orrefors Kosta Boda AB group. Since 2005, the group has been owned by New Wave Group AB, a Swedish investment company that specializes in the design, acquisition, and development of brands within the corporate promotion, sports, and home furnishing sectors. Despite global economic shifts, high-end Kosta Boda art glass continues to be primarily manufactured at the Kosta Glassworks in Sweden, maintaining its heritage of craftsmanship.
