Modelo beer is a historic Mexican brand that was first brewed in 1925 in Tacuba, Mexico City, by Cervecería Modelo. The brand was established with the goal of creating a 'model' beer by blending traditional European brewing techniques with local Mexican sensibility. Over the decades, it evolved from a regional favorite into a global icon, with its flagship products Modelo Especial and Modelo Negra becoming symbols of Mexican brewing craftsmanship.

The ownership of Modelo is uniquely structured due to regulatory requirements. Globally, the brand is owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's largest brewing conglomerate, which fully acquired the original parent company, Grupo Modelo, in 2013. However, to comply with U.S. antitrust laws, the rights to manufacture, market, and sell Modelo in the United States were sold to Constellation Brands. This means that while AB InBev manages the brand internationally, Constellation Brands operates it independently for the American market.

Despite these corporate shifts, Modelo remains committed to its 'Hecho en México' heritage. All Modelo beer is brewed exclusively in Mexico at various high-capacity plants, including facilities in Nava, Coahuila and Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. This central manufacturing approach ensures that the beer maintains its authentic flavor profile as it is exported to over 180 countries.
