Pipers Crisps was founded in 2004 by three farmers—Alex Albone, Simon Dowson, and James Sweeting—who aimed to create high-quality potato chips using local ingredients. The brand is well-known for its collaboration with regional artisans, such as using Lye Cross Farm cheddar for its seasoning.

The brand remained independent until 2019, when it was acquired by the global food and beverage giant PepsiCo. Despite the acquisition, the manufacturing remains rooted in the United Kingdom, specifically at their base in Brigg, Lincolnshire. As a part of PepsiCo's premium snack portfolio, Pipers continues to market itself as a gourmet alternative to mainstream chip brands while benefiting from the logistical reach of its parent corporation.
