Listerine is one of the world's most recognized oral hygiene brands, originally developed in 1879 by Dr. Joseph Lawrence and Jordan Wheat Lambert in the United States. Its formula was originally named after Sir Joseph Lister, a pioneer in antiseptic surgery. The brand was historically managed by the Lambert Pharmacal Company and later Pfizer.
Today, Listerine is owned by Kenvue, a consumer health company that was spun off from Johnson & Johnson in 2023. While the brand has global origins in the US, the European products (including the one pictured with German labeling) are predominantly manufactured in Italy at the specialized production facility in Santa Palomba. The parent company, Kenvue, is a major global player in consumer health, maintaining its headquarters in Skillman, New Jersey, USA.
