The brand grew out of a sock and underwear company called Maglificio Calzificio Torinese (MCT), which was originally founded in 1916. The transition to the Kappa brand occurred after a manufacturing error led to a 'K-Kontroll' quality seal, eventually evolving into the dedicated sportswear line we recognize today. The brand is globally famous for its 'Omini' logo, which depicts a man and a woman sitting back-to-back, symbolizing mutual support.

Today, Kappa is owned by BasicNet S.p.A., an Italian publicly listed company specializing in branded apparel. While the brand remains deeply rooted in Italian design and heritage, its products are manufactured in multiple countries across Asia and Europe to satisfy global demand. This decentralized production model is managed through a vast network of licensees and distributors that handle local market operations while maintaining the brand's classic athletic aesthetic.
