Duralex is an iconic French manufacturer of tempered glass and tabletop products, most famously known for its amber and clear glass tumblers and bowls. The amber color, seen in this bowl, is a classic mid-century design aesthetic that remains popular today. Duralex pioneered the glass tempering process in the 1930s, creating products that are significantly more shock-resistant and heat-resistant than standard glass.
While the company faced financial difficulties in recent years, it was saved from liquidation. In 2021, it was acquired by International Cookware (now known as La Maison Française du Verre), the same entity that manages Pyrex for the EMEA region. In 2024, the company transitioned into a SCOP (cooperative) model, where employees have a central role in the company's future while maintaining its historic manufacturing base in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, France.
