In 2015, the German media conglomerate Axel Springer SE acquired a controlling stake in the company, eventually leading to full ownership. Digital operations are primarily based in the United States, with hubs in New York City, though the brand operates global editions in various countries and languages.

Axel Springer SE, headquartered in Berlin, Germany, remains the ultimate owner of Insider. The platform underwent a temporary rebranding simply to 'Insider' in 2021 before reverting back to the 'Business Insider' name for its business-focused content, while maintaining 'Insider' for wider lifestyle and general news coverage.
