Anís del Mono is one of Spain's most iconic spirits, famous for its distinct diamond-textured bottle and the 'monkey' label. Founded in 1870 in Badalona, Catalonia, by the brothers Vicente and José Bosch, the brand pioneered revolutionary marketing and bottle design. The unique bottle was actually inspired by a perfume bottle José Bosch found in Paris, and the label features a monkey with a human-like face, which is said to be a satirical nod to Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.
Today, the brand is owned and managed by the family-owned Spanish spirits giant Osborne Group. Production remains deeply rooted in its historic distillery in Badalona, which is recognized as a heritage site. The brand continues to be a staple in Spanish culture, particularly used in traditional baking and during festive celebrations like Christmas.
