Sprite soft drink

Sprite is a globally recognized lemon-lime flavored soft drink that was originally developed in West Germany in 1959 under the name Fanta Klare Zitrone (Fanta Clear Lemon). It was officially introduced to the United States market as Sprite in 1961 by The Coca-Cola Company to compete directly with 7-Up. The name 'Sprite' was derived from an earlier Coca-Cola mascot, Sprite Boy, who appeared in advertisements during the 1940s and 1950s.

Today, Sprite is owned and managed by The Coca-Cola Company, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. While the brand strategy, secret formula, and concentrate production are centralized by Coca-Cola, the physical manufacturing of the beverage is decentralized. Sprite is produced in over 190 countries through an extensive network of independent and licensed bottling partners, such as Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and Coca-Cola FEMSA. These partners combine the proprietary syrup with local water and sweeteners to package and distribute the product within their respective regions.

As of 2026, Sprite continues to hold its position as the world's leading lemon-lime soda and the second-largest brand in Coca-Cola’s portfolio. It recently reached a milestone by becoming the third most popular soda brand in the United States, surpassing its long-time competitor Pepsi in market share. The brand has maintained its cultural relevance through strong ties to hip-hop, basketball, and street culture, solidified by its latest global platform, 'It's That Fresh'.
