The brand became a staple for hikers and mountaineers, known for introducing waterproof membranes such as Weathertite in their footwear designs.

While originally a family-owned British manufacturer, the brand's production and ownership have shifted significantly over the decades. Today, manufacturing is outsourced to several countries, primarily across Asia, to maintain competitive pricing for the mass market.
