Red River Cereal is a storied Canadian breakfast staple known for its unique blend of cracked wheat, rye, and flaxseed. Originally created in 1924, it was named after the Red River Valley in Manitoba, where the brand was first established. The cereal gained a loyal following for its fiber-rich, crunchy texture and its reputation as a wholesome, traditional morning meal in the Canadian Prairies.
Over the decades, the brand has changed hands several times. It was long associated with the Robin Hood Multifoods company before being acquired by Smucker Foods of Canada (a subsidiary of The J.M. Smucker Company). In 2021, Smucker's discontinued the product, but it was later rescued by Arva Flour Mills, North America's oldest continuously operating water-powered commercial flour mill. Today, the brand is owned and manufactured in Ontario, Canada, preserving its heritage as a classic Canadian health food.
