Kodak, founded by George Eastman in 1888, is one of the most iconic names in the history of photography. Based in Rochester, New York, the brand revolutionized the imaging industry by making photography accessible to the masses through its film and handheld cameras. While the brand faced significant challenges during the digital transition in the early 21st century, it continues to hold a prominent place in both consumer nostalgia and professional imaging industries.
Today, the brand's ownership is split across different entities. Eastman Kodak Company remains the primary owner of the core intellectual property and industrial inkjet/software operations. However, following their bankruptcy restructuring in 2013, the consumer film and paper business was spun off into a separate company called Kodak Alaris. Many current Kodak-branded consumer electronics, such as digital cameras and printers, are produced under license by various third-party global partners.
