KitKat is a globally recognized chocolate-covered wafer bar that was originally created by Rowntree's of York in the United Kingdom in 1935. Originally launched as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp, it was later renamed Kit Kat. The brand is famous for its 'Have a break, have a KitKat' slogan and its unique snap-able bar format.
In 1988, the Swiss multinational Nestlé acquired Rowntree's, becoming the global owner of the brand. While Nestlé produces and distributes KitKat in most markets worldwide, there is a unique licensing exception in the United States, where the brand is manufactured by The Hershey Company under a long-term license from Nestlé.
Manufacturing takes place in various specialized facilities across the globe to serve local markets. For example, prominent production sites include the original factory in York, England, as well as plants in Japan, Dubai, and Canada. This specific Salted Caramel variant is part of their modern flavor expansion strategy, catering to evolving consumer palettes with a mix of sweet and savory notes.
