Crude oil is a global energy commodity produced in various regions around the world. Major extraction occurs in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iraq), North America (USA, Canada), Russia, and Africa. The oil is categorized by specific benchmarks such as Brent Crude, typically sourced from the North Sea, and West Texas Intermediate (WTI), sourced primarily from the United States.
As a raw natural resource, crudes are not branded in the traditional consumer sense but are extracted and traded by major national oil companies (NOCs) like Saudi Aramco and PetroChina, or international oil companies (IOCs) such as ExxonMobil, Shell, and BP. Ownership of the physical product belongs to the extracting entity or state until it is sold to refiners for conversion into gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products.
