Founded in 1947 in the heart of the French Alps by François Salomon and his family, Salomon began as a wood saw and ski edge workshop in Annecy. Over the decades, the brand evolved from a pioneer in ski bindings and boots into a global leader in outdoor sports equipment, particularly famous for its trail running shoes, hiking boots, and winter sports gear. Its focus on innovative design and high-performance engineering has made it a staple for outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.
While its design and research headquarters remain in Annecy, France, manufacturing is now distributed globally. A significant portion of Salomon's production, especially footwear and apparel, takes place in Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia. However, certain high-end products and ski-related gear are still produced within Europe. Today, Salomon is owned by Amer Sports, a conglomerate that went public on the NYSE in 2024 and is majority-owned by a consortium led by the Chinese sportswear giant Anta Sports.
