DigiD

DigiD (short for Digital Identity) is the primary identity management system used by the government of the Netherlands. It allows Dutch residents and citizens to access a wide range of government services, healthcare providers, and insurance companies online with a high level of security. The system was originally commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations to streamline public administration and ensure secure digital transactions between the state and its residents.

The technical development and operational maintenance of DigiD are managed by Logius, the digital government service of the Netherlands. Since its inception in the early 2000s, it has become the standard for electronic authentication in the country. The service is strictly a public-sector initiative, owned and governed by the Dutch state to protect the personal data (BSN) of its citizens.
