The Hannaford brand shares a deep corporate history with the Ahold Delhaize group. Originally founded in Portland, Maine, in 1883 by Arthur Hannaford, the company eventually became part of the Belgian Delhaize Group. In 2016, Delhaize merged with the Dutch company Ahold to form Ahold Delhaize, one of the world's largest food retail groups.
