The name 'Puleva' is an abbreviation of the Spanish words 'PU-ra LE-che de VA-ca' (Pure Cow's Milk). Historically, the brand has been a pioneer in functional dairy products in Europe, being among the first to launch milk enriched with Omega-3, vitamins, and calcium to address specific health needs.

Today, the brand's production remains heavily centered in Spain, with major processing plants located in Granada, Lugo, and Seville. This local manufacturing ensures that the milk is sourced and processed within the Spanish territory to maintain freshness and support the domestic agricultural sector.

In terms of ownership, Puleva underwent a significant change in 2010 when the Spanish group Ebro Foods sold its dairy division to the French multinational Lactalis Group.
