Yoplait is one of the world's most recognizable yogurt brands, originating in France in 1965. It was created through a merger of six French dairy cooperatives, which is represented by the six-petaled flower logo (the 'Petite Fleur'). The brand has since expanded globally, adapting its recipes to suit regional tastes and dietary requirements.
In the Australian market, as seen on this packaging (which features the 'Australian Made' logo and Health Star Rating), the product is manufactured locally using Australian milk. The ownership of the brand is fragmented geographically. While General Mills owns the majority stake in the international Yoplait business, the Australian operations and license are managed by Bega Cheese Limited after they acquired Lion Dairy & Drinks. This ensures that the products sold in Australia are largely sourced from local dairy farmers and produced in Australian facilities.
