Porsche is a world-renowned manufacturer of high-performance luxury sports cars, SUVs, and sedans. Founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche in Stuttgart, Germany, the brand initially provided motor vehicle development work and consulting before launching its own vehicle, the 356, in 1948.
Today, the flagship Porsche 911 and the 718 models are primarily manufactured at the historic Zuffenhausen plant in Stuttgart. The Cayenne, Macan, and Panamera models are produced in Leipzig, Germany, while some assembly for the Cayenne occurs at the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Porsche AG is currently a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. Following a complex financial history between the Porsche and Piëch families, Porsche AG underwent an IPO in 2022. It remains part of the Volkswagen Group's 'Brand Group Core' while maintaining a high degree of operational independence. The ultimate controlling interest in both Volkswagen and Porsche is held by Porsche Automobil Holding SE, a holding company owned by the Porsche-Piëch families.
