Kaweco is a historic brand of writing instruments dating back to 1883. Originally founded as the Heidelberger Federhalterfabrik (Heidelberg Dip Pen Factory), it later became Kaweco, a name derived from the names of the owners Koch and Weber. The brand is world-renowned for its iconic 'Sport' series of pocket fountain pens, which have maintained a consistent design since the early 20th century.
Today, Kaweco is owned by h&m gutberlet GmbH, based in Nuremberg, Germany. While many of the components and the final assembly of their high-end pens and specialty metal editions continue to take place in Germany to maintain strict quality standards, the company also sources specific parts globally. The brand remains a staple in the stationery community for its blends of vintage aesthetic and modern manufacturing techniques.
Ownership transitioned to the Gutberlet family in the 1990s, who revived the brand after it faced financial difficulties earlier in the century. Under their stewardship, Kaweco has expanded into a global luxury stationery brand while staying true to its German engineering heritage.
