Vasque is a legendary name in the outdoor industry, widely recognized for its high-performance hiking boots and trail footwear. The brand's journey began in 1964 when William D. Sweasy, then-president of the Red Wing Shoe Company, traveled to Europe and observed the growing hiking trend. He returned to the United States and launched the brand—originally named 'Voyageur' before being renamed to Vasque in 1971—to provide American hikers with durable, purpose-built footwear that could handle rugged terrains.

Throughout its history, Vasque has been a pioneer in technical innovation. It was one of the first brands to incorporate GORE-TEX waterproof membranes into hiking boots and has long collaborated with Vibram to provide superior traction outsoles. Iconic models like the Sundowner and the Breeze have become staples for adventurers worldwide, bridging the gap between traditional leather craftsmanship and modern performance materials.

Today, Vasque remains a key subsidiary of the Red Wing Shoe Company, headquartered in Red Wing, Minnesota. While its designs and heritage are deeply rooted in the American Midwest, its manufacturing has expanded globally to meet international demand, with most products currently crafted in specialized factories across Asia. Despite this global reach, the brand continues to uphold the strict quality control and durability standards set by its parent company over half a century ago.
